Frequently Asked Questions
How do I book my first appointment?
You can book your first appointment by contacting the practice via email, phone, or through the online booking link. No referral is required to begin counselling, unless you wish to claim a Medicare rebate, which can be obtained from your GP through a referral and a Mental Health Treatment/Care Plan (MHTP/MHCP).
Do I need a referral from my GP or another health professional?
No referral is needed to book an appointment. You are welcome to attend as a private-paying client without any prior referral. However, if you have a GP referral and a Mental Health Treatment/ Care Plan (MHTP/ MHCP), you may be eligible for up to 10 individual counselling sessions per calendar year.
We also accept referrals from WorkCover, Insurance schemes, EAP (Employee Assistance Program), NDIS. Victim Assist and DVA referrals are not provided in this clinic. Medicolegal assessments/reports are not offered by this clinic.
What should I expect in my first session?
During your first session, your psychologist will conduct a clinical interview to understand your concerns, complete an intake assessment, and develop an initial case conceptualisation. You will also be introduced to our therapeutic approach. The session provides an opportunity for your therapist to get to know you, explore your presenting issues, and review relevant background and history. Most importantly, this first meeting is about building a connection—creating a safe, respectful, and supportive space where you feel comfortable. For more complex cases, your clinician may spend additional time on case conceptualisation, refining your therapeutic goals in the second session as appropriate.
Can I access services in languages other than English?
Yes. Sessions are available in English and Bahasa Indonesia, and can be conducted either in-clinic or via telehealth.
What types of sessions do you offer (in-person, telehealth, assessments)?
We offer in-person counselling sessions at our Sunnybank clinic. Telehealth sessions can also be arranged upon agreement with your psychologist. Please note that for ASD and ADHD assessments must be conducted in person. Some psychometric assessments can be delivered online.
How long is a standard session?
A standard session lasts approximately 50 minutes.
Are there sessions available for children, adolescents, and adults with special needs?
Yes. We provide sessions for all age groups, including children, adolescents, adults, older adults, and individuals with special needs tailored to your specific clinical needs.
Do you do assessments?
Yes, various psychology assessments are available. For psychometric assessments (ADOS-2) for the formal diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and ADHD assessments please enquire via email, subject “Assessment” to info@immaculatepsychology.com.au.

Results of assessments can be combined with Paediatricians’/ Psychiatrists’ further assessments to form a formal diagnosis. Assessments can be covered privately or through insurance, but not claimable under MHTP Medicare rebates.
What are your fees for different types of sessions or psychology services?
Our session fees vary depending on the type of psychology session or service. Payment is required on the day of the session, and a $20 late fee applies if payment is not made on time. Medicare rebates require referrals to be provided at least one week in advance. To receive the concession rate, a valid Pension or Health Care Card must be verified by our clinic at least one week prior to the session. Psychological reports can be arranged separately; fees apply, and payment is required before receiving the report if privately funded. Please refer to our Fees section for more detailed information.
Can I claim Medicare or private health rebates?
Yes. We accept Medicare rebates (with a valid GP referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan) as well as private health insurance. Please ensure you have the necessary referrals in place before your appointment. Please note that Medicare does not provide rebates for more than one session per day. We also recommend checking with your health fund to confirm your level of cover for psychology services, as benefits vary between insurers and policies.
Do you provide services for NDIS participants?
Yes. We provide services for NDIS participants. Please refer to your Service Agreement for cancellation and claiming policies.
Is bulk-billing available for appointments?
No. We do not offer bulk-billing. However, a concession rate is available for holders of a valid Pension or Health Care Card. This reduced-fee payment is required at the time of the session, and rebates are processed immediately afterward.
How is my personal and health information protected, and can it be shared with other professionals?
All personal and health information is treated with the highest level of confidentiality and stored securely in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), and professional ethical standards. Information is used only for its intended purpose and will not be disclosed unless required by law, with your written consent, or if there is an immediate threat of harm to yourself or others. With your permission, your psychologist may share relevant information or provide reports to your GP, paediatrician, or other health professionals involved in your care.
What is your policy regarding client conduct and safety during sessions?
We have a zero-tolerance policy for abuse, aggression, or inappropriate behaviour towards our staff. Rude, threatening, or aggressive conduct is not acceptable, and we are unable to proceed with sessions if a client behaves aggressively or attends an appointment while intoxicated. This policy is in place to ensure a safe, respectful environment for our clients and team.
Can I reschedule or cancel a session if needed?
Yes. When an appointment is booked, the psychologist reserves not only the full hour exclusively for you, but also preparation time prior to your session. For this reason, we require at least 48 hours’ notice for cancellations so the allocated time can be offered to another person who may be in urgent need of a clinician or on the waiting list.
Please notify us at least 48 hours in advance to avoid a cancellation fee. Cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice may incur a $100 fee. For NDIS participants, please refer to your Service Agreement. Please note that any unpaid cancellation fee may prevent further appointments from being booked.
What should I do in case of a mental health emergency?
If you are in crisis or require urgent support, please contact 000 immediately. You can also access 24/7 support, including Lifeline (13 11 14), as well as other emergency contacts listed on our website.
